Shearman & Sterling Makes Giant Leap in Mergers & Acquisitions Tables for 2023

Shearman & Sterling stood out from its peers in 2023 as the firm made the largest jump in M&A tables among law firms ranked in the top 25 in the categories of deal value and deal volume, according to data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) compiled by The American Lawyer.

In 2023, Shearman & Sterling rose to No. 14 in deal value from a ranking of No. 47 in 2022. Over the past year, the firm increased its market share by 3.9%, the third-largest gain among top 25 firms for deal value.

For deal volume, Shearman & Sterling also made a giant leap, jumping to No. 13 from No. 61 in 2022, reported The American Lawyer in an article published on Jan. 4, 2024. According to LSEG, worldwide M&A activity in 2023 totaled $2.9 trillion.
