Dr Moritz Meister

Senior Associate

Moritz represents developers, sponsors, lenders and investors in capital and infrastructure projects. 

Focusing on the renewable energy sector, he handles transactions including development, debt finance, equity finance and mergers and acquisitions. Among his clients are global multinational entities, such as infrastructure and energy funds, pension funds, independent power producers, developers and leading national and international corporations. He provides advice on project design and transaction structuring at every phase of project development and financing, from project inception to equity investment to construction, permanent financing and refinancing. 
 
Moritz splits his time between Hamburg and Los Angeles and offers an in-depth knowledge of the energy sector including the relevant markets allowing him to successfully negotiate PPAs and other offtake agreements. He has particular expertise with regard to offshore wind and hydrogen projects and regularly publishes on these topics.

Representative matters

  • GCM Grosvenor on their investment in the 17GW utility scale solar and battery-storage development platform of Vesper Energy with projects spread all over the United States.
  • European Energy on their acquisition of a majority stake in a 700MW solar and battery storage portfolio under development in Colorado, United States.
  • Large consortium of commercial banks, SIDF, NIF and Euler Hermes on the financing of the NEOM Green Hydrogen giga project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, USD6.1bn of project finance debt and USD8.4bn. This is the world’s largest facility of this kind, will produce 600 tons of hydrogen per day and includes around 4GW combined renewable power from onshore solar, wind and battery storage.
  • Consortium of a group of financial institutions on the successful acquisition of a 49.9% stake in the 960 MW offshore wind project ""He Dreiht"" from EnBW. The project has an associated development cost of EUR 2.4bn.
  • DEME Group on the EUR 1.6bn acquisition, construction and financing of the Merkur offshore wind farm. – Renewables Deal of the Year – PFI AWARDS 2016; European Offshore Wind Award 2016 – IJ Global 2017.
