JERA and bp form offshore wind joint venture

A&O Shearman is advising Japan head-quartered JERA on the creation of a joint venture with bp to combine their offshore wind businesses to create a new standalone, equally-owned business.

The new company will be called JERA Nex bp and will be one of the largest global offshore wind developers, owners and operators with a balanced mix of operating assets and development projects with a total of 13GW potential net generating capacity.

The A&O Shearman deal was led by partners Richard Evans, Stephen Mathews and Mitch Ikoghode in London. Advice was provided by partner Wouter Van de Voorde on the Belgian aspects of the deal, and in Japan by our Tokyo team led by partner Matthias Voss.

“We were able to bring together a strong cross-border team to advise our client on this deal which will play an important part in the global energy transition.”
