She has experience of UK and international transactions and has spent time in our Vietnam office as well as secondment in our Singapore office.

In our Vietnam and Singapore offices, Chau has worked on finance, foreign investment, corporate and M&A matters for clients across sectors including financial services, real estate, renewable energy, retail and FMCG.

Representative matters

  • CapitaLand on its S$81.4m (approx USD59.4m equivalent) acquisition of a prime residential site in District 2 of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
  • A Japanese trading and investment company on a USD4.1 billion joint venture to develop a large scale urban development project in Vietnam.
  • KKR on its investment in Masan Group and Masan Nutri-Science. Masan Group is one of Vietnam's largest private sector companies and Masan Nutri-Science is its meat producing unit.
  • VietJet, Vietnam’s leading international low-cost airline, on its innovative, ground-breaking USD170m initial public offering on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange. This matter was important because it is the first truly international listing in Vietnam, meaning it is not only available to international investors, but also adheres to international standards and has been undertaken with international-style documentation.
  • The lenders, including ADB, Bangkok Bank and Siam Commercial Bank on the financing of a 50MW utility-scale solar power plant and transmission line in Gulf Tay Ninh 2 JSC, a subsidiary of Gulf Energy Development PCL. This transaction is one of the first large-scale international project finance transaction for a renewables project in Vietnam. Renewables Deal of the Year (Solar) - Vietnam, The Asset Triple A Infrastructure Awards 2021.
  • The joint lead managers on Vinpearl’s USD425m Reg S exchangeable bond listed on the SGX and exchangeable into shares of Vingroup, the largest private economic group in Vietnam. This is the world’s first exchangeable sustainability bond. Best Equity-Linked Deal (Vietnam), The Asset Triple A Country Awards 2021.
  • EGATi and other Thai sponsors on the Quang Tri 1 BOT power project in Vietnam which supposedly could be the last coal-fired power plant in Vietnam.
  • Thai Beverage Plc (ThaiBev) on its USD4.8bn acquisition of a majority stake in Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corporation (Sabeco), Vietnam’s largest brewer, via a competitive offering process. The transaction represents Vietnam’s biggest privatisation to date. Best Acquisition of the Year, Vietnam M&A Forum 2018.
  • A group of financial institutions as joint managers, on Vincom Retail’s Rule 144A USD700m offering of secondary shares and listing on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange. This transaction utilised a new structure that resulted in shorter settlement times and at the date of close, this was the largest ever equity deal in Vietnam. Best PE Deal, FinanceAsia Achievement Awards 2017.

  • Mentoring young people through the firm’s award-winning Smart Start programme.
  • Involved in a human rights project called 'Bail for Immigration Detainees – Unsafe Release' relating to misconducts, mishandling by the Home Office towards detainee.
