José Luis is an expert in managing complex and high-profile disputes. 

He has advised in both domestic and international arbitration procedures regarding disputes concerning many different sectors such as energy, IT, construction and retail companies, administered before the ICC, the LCIA and many domestic Arbitral Institutions such as CIMA, CIAM and CEA. José Luis also has a vast experience in commercial litigation (challenge of companies’ resolutions, M&A litigation and a wide range of contractual disputes). He also has experience in advising important financial institutions in misselling cases (including class actions) related to structured bonds, preferred shares, multicurrency mortgages and swap interest rate clauses.

Graduated top of his class (premio extraordinario) he is an adjunct professor at renowned universities such as Instituto de Empresa (IE University) and Navarra University where he teaches the subjects such as Civil Contracts, Litigation and Arbitration.   • In an ICC arbitration deriving from the termination of a Sponsorship Agreement. The amount at dispute exceeding Eur 500m.
  • In an ICC arbitration, arising out of a breach of contract of a major construction company. The amount at stake exceeded Eur 250m.
  • In an ICC Arbitration arising out of a breach of contract of the Spanish hotelier leading company. Amount at stake exceeding USD 20m.
  • In an ICC Arbitration deriving from the breach of contract of a JVA in relation to the construction of an oil refinery.
  • In disputes related to Agency Agreement, defending one of the major international banks in a lawsuit exceeding Eur 80m arising out of a claim for compensation for clientele.
  • In several complex disputes arising out of M&A transactions where buyer claimed against seller based on a breach of reps and warranties and exceeding Eur 60m.
  • A major infrastructure company in its Eur 500m arising out of its right to acquire a stake in a listed company.
  • An English important bank in its dispute regarding the breach of a financing agreement. Amount at stake exceeded Eur 15m.
  • An American Bank in a Eur 10m dispute arising out of the breach of an agency agreement.

Pro bono

  • Minority Rights Group: Pro bono project exploring the possibility of prosecuting individuals who have committed crimes in Syria in foreign national courts (primarily in Europe and the US).
  • Save the Children: Advising this NGO in drafting several legal reports related to child labour.
  • Amnesty International: Cooperation in the analysis of barriers to the access to justice within Europe.
