Lachlan regularly assists clients navigate complex competition law, consumer and regulatory issues.

He has a particular focus on complex cross-border regulatory investigations and obtaining Australian and international merger control clearance on complex M&A transactions across a range of sectors, including tech, energy, resources, capital markets, banking, financial services and insurance.

Lachlan provides commercial specialist advice grounded in deep sector knowledge to assist clients in their dealings with regulators, including merger review, market studies and reform and enforcement action.

Representative matters

  • Asahi Group Holdings in relation to obtaining ACCC merger clearance for its AUD 16 billion acquisition of Carlton United Breweries.
  • PEXA on its 2018 tradesale and 2021 IPO, as well as a a range of ongoing ACCC and market regulatory issues.
  • A leading digital platform and technology company in relation to market studies, investigations and enforcement actions across Australia and APAC.
  • A Major financial institution in relation to investigations across Australia and APAC involving the alleged manipulation of foreign exchange benchmarks.
  • BUPA, one of Australia's leading providers of private health insurance and associated health industry services, on a range of transactions and ventures, including commercial interactions with private hospitals, doctors, dentists, optical businesses and consumers. Advising on and facilitating ACCC clearances where necessary.
  • Alinta Energy in responding to the ACCC electricity and gas industry inquiries.

Pro bono

  • Pro-bono associate coordinator for A&O Sydney, 2021-present.
  • Advising and representing an indigenous Australian man assaulted by prison officers.
  • Advising and representing refugees and asylum seekers on behalf of the Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS).
  • Advising RACS on the development of a case law toolkit for representing refugees and asylum seekers of LGBTIQ status.
  • Advising a leading public interest advocacy body on various human rights and civil liberty issues in a range of public consultations.
  • Mentoring young people through ABCN programmes.
