William Wray

Associate

Will focuses his commercial practice on litigating high tech intellectual property disputes, but maintains that the principles of effective advocacy—ethos, pathos, and logos—are the same in every case.

Will’s first case involved second-chairing a party’s defense in a memorable, high stakes, multiparty case related to the State of Rhode Island’s enormous investment in a videogame company owned by a former professional athlete. This case set a first-year associate across the deposition table from, and in the courtroom with, a numerous and diverse set of top tier trial advocates. It sparked Will’s interest in complex civil litigation—and drove home the lesson to diversify one’s investments. Over the following decade, Will has litigated more than forty federal court cases and eighty-plus state court cases across the country. He is honored to be admitted to the bar in Massachusetts, Texas, California, Rhode Island, and numerous federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.

Will’s practice focuses on intellectual property disputes of all stripes, but high-tech patent cases predominate. These cases—which often feature complex technologies, civil procedure arcana, years of messy or elusive facts, and multiple expert witnesses—benefit from Will’s focus on distilling a case down to that which is compelling, clear, and, whenever possible, colorful. Will’s interest in technology extends to finding ways to implement technology into the practice of law to save clients time, money, and trouble.

Will has had the honor of representing his alma mater, Brown University, his home football team, the New England Patriots, his home state and many of its elected officials, and even the manufacturer of his home computer, MSI. He is grateful to the clients, colleagues, mentors and friends who have trusted him to navigate their disputes.
