Advising on PLN214 8 million financing for groundbreaking waste processing plant in Poland
We advised the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD), mBank S.A., and Bank Ochrony Środowiska S.A. on the PLN214.8m financing of a pioneering municipal solid waste processing plant in Wierzbica, Poland. This project marks a significant advancement in sustainable waste management in the region. The financing will support the construction of a state-of-the-art facility equipped with patented RotoSteril technology, capable of treating 150,000 tonnes of municipal waste annually.

This innovative technology will revolutionize waste management practices by sterilizing waste, reducing landfill dependency, and maximizing material recovery, thereby aligning with circular economy principles and promoting sustainability.

The A&O Shearman team was led by Tomasz Kawczyński and comprised Kamil Jankielewicz, Konrad Zawistowski, Antoni Roszkowski, Maria Korba (Polish law team), Miklos Kadar, Jana Marsalkova, and Tereza Veverkova (English law team).

"Advising on the financing of the Wierzbica waste processing plant has been a remarkable journey, one that underscores our dedication to pioneering sustainable solutions. This project is not just about building a facility; it's about transforming how we manage waste and protect our environment. The RotoSteril technology at the heart of this plant represents a leap forward in waste management, turning what was once a challenge into an opportunity for material recovery and sustainability. The collaboration with EBRD, mBank S.A., and Bank Ochrony Środowiska S.A. has been exemplary, and for this we are immensely grateful."
