Allen & Overy has announced the appointment of David Jenaway as Office Managing Partner for Perth, effective 1 February.

David succeeds Geoff Simpson to allow time for transition ahead of Geoff’s upcoming retirement from the partnership.

David joined the firm in 2014, and has been a partner since 2018. David has extensive experience in a broad range of high-profile disputes, with a particular emphasis on matters arising in the energy and resources, and construction sectors. He has a particular speciality in relation to disputes throughout the whole life cycle of oil and gas projects.

David was the 2021 winner of the Professional Services category at the WA Business News 40under40 awards. He also takes a lead role in Allen & Overy’s community and pro bono initiatives. In his new role, David will focus on leading A&O’s operations in Perth and Australia and continuing to deliver high-quality service to its clients.

Geoff Simpson commented: “Building the Australian business from scratch just over twelve years ago was an incredible opportunity then, as it is today. As we continue to grow our operations in Australia, our Perth office has become integral to our Asia-Pacific and global reach. David’s focus on our clients and our people makes him an ideal choice for the role of Managing Partner. I am confident that he will drive the continued success of the Perth office.”

David Jenaway said: “It’s an exciting time to be taking on the role of Office Managing Partner for Perth. Since we established in Australia, our strategy has been about scaling our platform to assist our clients with their most important matters, both locally and internationally, whilst working closely with our global network. We have also worked hard to promote a culture of diversity and inclusion for our people, and expand our pro bono and community efforts. I look forward to working with the team to achieve continued success and build on Geoff’s legacy.”

Jason Denisenko, Sydney Managing Partner, added: “I would like to thank Geoff for his contribution and leadership as our first Managing Partner in Perth and congratulate David on his appointment. Together with David, I am confident that we will continue building on what has been a very successful journey for the Australia offices.”

This announcement follows the recent appointments of leveraged and acquisition finance expert Marnie Fels, who will join A&O as a partner in Sydney, and corporate M&A expert Matthew Johnson who has joined as a partner in Perth to co-lead the Global Mining sector.

In July 2022, A&O opened Advanced Delivery – Legal in Perth and A&O’s third office in Australia.
