Angus is a disputes lawyer who advises his clients on a wide range of commercial disputes (including arbitration and in superior courts), contentious regulatory matters and internal investigations including in relation to white collar crime (including fraud, antibribery and corruption), corporate governance, whistleblowers, all forms of contractual disputes as well as misleading or deceptive conduct claims.

 Angus works with international clients across jurisdictions in sectors which include financial services, health services, the pharmaceutical industry, the public sector and many more. His clients include major banks and companies, funds as well as government departments and agencies.

Angus works with his clients’ senior leadership and legal teams.

Experience

Representative matters

  • A Middle East based fund on an internal investigation into allegations of misappropriation of company money by a senior executive.
  • A multinational company on an internal investigation into allegations of fraud within its Indonesian business.
  • A Middle East government entity in a DIAC arbitration relating to a real estate dispute governed by UAE law. This dispute was valued at AED40 million.
  • A group of financial institutions of the USA in Victorian Supreme Court proceedings relating to allegations of a breach of the implied duty of good faith (English law) and unconscionable conduct (Australian law) following the failure of an Australian satellite business. This dispute is valued at AUD2b.
  • Westpac Banking Corporation in the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. This was a watershed moment in the Australian financial services sector, which resulted in significant legislative reform in the sector. (Previous firm experience) 

Pro bono

  • Advising an indigenous Australian in his claim the NSW prison system resulting from abuse while in incarceration.
  • Advising refugee applications to Australia through the Refugee Australian Casework Service.
