Head of Innovation – Global Disputes

Helen is a senior disputes lawyer who focuses on legal innovation.

She combines her legal background with expertise in change management and understanding of A&O Shearman’s innovation capabilities to drive profitability, competitive edge and deliver excellent client service for the firm.

Helen joined the firm in 2008 as a trainee and qualified into the Litigation and Investigations team where she was a Senior Associate until September 2019. She remains a solicitor of the courts of England and Wales.

Helen brings with her a vast depth of knowledge from her career as a lawyer advising financial institutions, corporates and individuals on contentious issues including banking, fraud and commercial disputes.

Helen also has an excellent understanding of clients having been on secondment to Standard Chartered Bank, Barclays, Coutts and Goldman Sachs legal teams.

Helen’s time on secondment and managing litigation teams as a Senior Legal Project Manager made her more aware of the potential for project management to transform the way legal services are delivered to clients. Helen is inspired by the firm’s innovative approach and is keen to develop this with clients and the internal legal teams to provide the best possible service.

Representative matters

  • Banking client on multi-million dollar cum ex multijurisdictional criminal and civil investigation with respect to cum ex trading and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Banking client on a US75.2m successful defence in the English High Court and Court of Appeal in a claim regarding the terms of Notes issued linked to the Argentinean inflation index.
