James has experience of a range of corporate and fundraising transactions with a particular focus on equity capital raisings.
He has been involved in a number of transactions advising issuers and lead managers on IPOs, secondary offerings and general securities law matters. James also has some experience providing general corporate and capital markets-related advice.

Representative matters

  • PEXA, the operator of Australia's leading property settlement platform, on its AUD1.17bn IPO as part of PEXA's dual-track IPO and Trade Sale process (June 2021). This transaction was awarded Equity Market Deal of the Year in the 2022 Australasian Law Awards.
  • The underwriters on SiteMinder's AUD627m IPO on the ASX (November 2021).
  • The joint lead managers on Transurban's AUD4.2bn Entitlement Offer and US Private Placement (September 2021).
  • Shaw & Partners and Canaccord Genuity as the joint lead managers on Paladin Energy Limited's AUD215m placement and share purchase plan (March 2022).

Pro bono

  • Representing an Indigenous Australian man who was assaulted by corrections officers in a civil claim in respect of his injuries. We secured a confidential settlement for our client notwithstanding strict laws that are intended to prevent persons in custody in the jurisdiction in question from being able to obtain compensation for such assaults.
  • Conducting and coordinating education rights research for girls for the Malala Fund and Vance Center.
  • Conducting comparative law research on the Vienne Convention of Diplomatic Relations in relation to a high-profile UK judicial review case.
  • Advising asylum seekers and preparing their protection visa applications, on behalf of Refugee and Advocacy Casework Services.
  • Assisting in preparing the industry standard IPO Due Diligence Planning Memorandum for the Australian Financial Markets Association.
