Kara's practice focusses on federal income tax matters related to renewable energy projects.
Kara also has experience advising clients on the tax aspects of fund and joint venture formation and on investments in US real estate. Prior to joining the firm, Kara was an attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, Passthroughs & Special Industries, where she advised on the carried interest tax regulations and on various tax litigation matters.

  • A developer in relation to the tax equity financing for its solar PV and battery energy storage system project in South Carolina.
  • A developer on a transaction to obtain cash equity financing and the sale of tax credits generated by three solar projects in NY and CA.
  • SunPower Inc. on mezzanine financing, senior debt, cash equity, and a tax credit transfer for 2024 portfolio of third party owned systems.
  • An energy transition company in relation to the construction and back-leverage term loan financing for its Lone Star solar PV and battery energy storage system project in South Carolina.
  • Generate Capital Inc. in the tax equity financing of an approximately 85 MW of New York community solar projects in New York (and 30 MW portfolio of fuel cells located across several states).
  • A purchaser of investment tax credits and 45Z credits to be generated by a portfolio of renewable natural gas projects.
  • InfraRed Capital Partners and its controlled affiliates in the acquisition of 60% equity interest in Brazos Wind Holdings onshore wind farm and 50% equity interest of Madison Fields solar development from Savion (a Shell subsidiary).
