Nigel specialises in intellectual property, technology and data.

His experience covers all stages of the product life cycle, including product development, early-stage collaboration and licensing, consortia and strategic partnerships, technology transfers, manufacturing and supply, distribution, brand licensing and sponsorship, and other commercialisation activities. He also has extensive experience of complex technology transactions, including technology procurement, outsourcing and digital transformation projects. For over 20 years, he has advised clients across a range of IP and data-rich sectors, including life sciences, automotive, consumer and retail, sport, and financial services.

His data practice spans all areas of data protection and privacy, including advising on impact assessments for new products and services, international data transfers, cybersecurity incidents and regulatory investigations.

He is recognised as a leading individual in his specialist areas, including in Chambers UK, Legal 500 UK, Managing Intellectual Property, World Trademark Review and IAM Patent 1000. He has previously worked in the Firm’s Tokyo office and is a member of the Firm’s IT Board.

  • Nissan on the historic renegotiation of its 20+ year alliance with Renault, including EUR 5 billion cross-shareholding re-balancing.
  • A global healthcare company on its EUR150m investment into, and strategic collaboration with, German biotech company CureVac for the research, development and commercialisation of mRNA-based vaccines and monoclonal antibodies targeting infectious diseases.
  • A multinational telecommunications company on its GBP31bn joint venture to merge Virgin Media and O2's fixed, broadband and mobile businesses in the UK.
  • Haleon on the sale of the ChapStick brand to Suave Brands, and on the divestiture of its Lamisil brand across 70+ jurisdictions to Karo Healthcare.
  • A public petroleum and natural gas company on its strategic partnership with Aston Martin F1, including a long-term sponsorship and licensing agreement.
  • Uni-President on the acquisition of Carrefour Taiwan from the Carrefour Group.
  • An investor, in a consortium comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, on the sponsorship, IP, IT and data protection aspects of its acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club from St James Holdings.
  • MBDA UK on a series of air defence export agreements with Poland, including IP and technology transfer issues relating to ground-based-air-defence systems.
