A&O Shearman has appointed Renátus Kollár and Lucia Raimanová as co-managing partners for the Bratislava office. The appointment follows the recent passing of Martin Magál, former managing partner in Bratislava, whose contributions to the firm will be remembered with deep gratitude.

Renátus joined the Bratislava office in 2000 and has 25 years of experience in advising on restructuring and insolvency matters, corporate finance, leveraged finance, acquisition finance, project finance and real estate finance transactions. He regularly acts as a trusted adviser to both domestic and foreign financial institutions and debtors as well as corporate clients. He has participated in the preparation of key legislation on restructuring, bankruptcy and collateral in Slovakia.

Lucia is triple qualified in Slovakia, Ireland and England & Wales with over 20 years of experience in high-stakes international commercial and investment treaty arbitration around the world. She has represented clients in litigation proceedings before the English, Slovak and Indian courts as well as the Court of Justice of the European Union. She practised with the firm in London and Hong Kong for over a decade before relocating to Bratislava in 2016 to further enhance the firm’s international arbitration and cross-border litigation offering in the Central Eastern Europe (CEE) region.

Arkadiusz Pędzich, managing partner of CEE and Poland, said: “Renátus and Lucia have exemplary leadership qualities and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs in the CEE region, which make them ideally suited for this role. I am confident that under their guidance, the Bratislava office will continue to grow and build on the strong foundation that Martin established, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of their leadership.”

Renátus Kollár commented: “I am honored to step into this role alongside Lucia and to build upon the legacy that Martin left behind. His dedication and vision have set a strong foundation, and we are committed to continuing that work with our market-leading team here in Bratislava. Partnering with Lucia in leading the office is a great privilege. She brings with her a wealth of experience in managing multi-billion-dollar disputes globally. With eight years of experience in this market, she possesses a unique ability to leverage her expertise for the strategic benefit of our clients. Together, we will strive to deliver the highest level of service to our clients and further strengthen our presence in the CEE region.”

Lucia Raimanová said: “Our Bratislava office has achieved unparalleled success in Slovakia over the past 25 years, becoming the largest global law firm in the market and achieving tier one ranking in all core practice areas - banking and finance, disputes and corporate/M&A. Renátus and I have a shared vision for growth, innovation and client excellence, and I am excited to collaborate closely with him and our talented team, which comprises 25 lawyers, including five counsel, as we work to achieve new milestones.”

A&O Shearman has one of the largest and most prominent practices in the CEE and is one of the few global law firms with a well-established and expanding presence in the region. With offices in Bratislava, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest, the firm provides fully integrated transactional and advisory services on domestic and cross-border matters with capabilities in our respective local laws, EU law and English law.
