Allen & Overy (A&O) and Shearman & Sterling (Shearman) announce the appointment of Julien Roux as office managing partner for the combined firm A&O Shearman in Paris, effective May 1, 2024. He will serve an initial term of two years.

Julien’s appointment follows the recent election of Hervé Ekué as managing partner of A&O Shearman. Hervé, who will take up his role on May 1, has led A&O’s Paris office since 2018.

Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling recently announced the first of several global senior leadership roles for the combined firm, including in addition to Hervé’s role, the election of Khalid Garousha as the firm’s senior partner, and the appointment of Adam Hakki as co-chair of the global board and executive committee, and chair of the firm’s U.S. business.

As a new industry leader with truly global capabilities, A&O Shearman will have ~3,900 lawyers and ~800 partners across 29 countries. In Paris, the firm will have over 150 lawyers specializing in French, English, and U.S. law.

Julien joined A&O in France in 2003 and became a partner in 2012. He is currently head of the banking and finance practice at A&O in France, and a member of the global restructuring group. He handles a wide range of financing transactions, representing both lenders and borrowers/sponsors, as well as debt restructuring operations.

Julien has played a key role in the development of A&O’s restructuring group in Paris, including welcoming partner Hector Arroyo, and his team, in 2022. He has built strong relationships with major clients of A&O, contributing to its - and soon-to-be A&O Shearman’s - reputation both in France and internationally. As office managing partner, Julien will continue this client-focused role, while leading and supporting A&O Shearman’s Paris office and its people.

"I am honored and proud to take on this role and to support the expansion of A&O Shearman in France and around the world. As A&O Shearman, we will offer unmatched reach and depth for complex, cross-border work. Our strength comes from our global capabilities, supported by deep local roots, relationships, and knowledge. We will also continue our initiatives to shape the future of the legal profession, by attracting and developing new talent and by advancing innovation, inclusion and diversity. It is an immense privilege for me to contribute to writing this new chapter in the firm's history," says Julien Roux.

"I am delighted to see Julien take on this leadership role for A&O Shearman. He has made an important contribution to the development of A&O’s Paris office for more than 20 years, and his investment in the firm’s reputation and influence will be a real asset for A&O Shearman. This appointment will enable the Paris office to continue its commitment to clients, providing them with innovative legal approach in line with their new challenges," mentions Hervé Ekué, current managing partner of A&O in Paris and future global managing partner of A&O Shearman.
