James represents financial sponsors, private equity funds and their portfolio companies on the financing of multi-jurisdictional transactions with experience in top-tier and mid-market domestic and cross-border syndicated and private credit lending, leverage acquisitions, general banking, special situations, direct lending, asset-backed lending, restructurings and fund financings.

  • 3i and its portfolio company, Action Group, the fastest-growing non-food discounter in Europe, on the debut $1.5bn TLB issuance.
  • Apollo Global Management on the financing of their bid for Asda from Walmart and the financing of their bid for Morrisons. 
  • Grup Mediapro, a leading group in the audiovisual sector, in relation to the refinancing of its existing syndicated debt facilities with a €500m long-term loan.
  • Parcom, Opportunity Partners and Carlyle on the financing for the acquisition of the Hunkemöller Group, one of the leading lingerie brands in Europe, from Carlyle who also reinvested for a minority stake.
Exponent Private Equity on the following matters
  • the financing of the acquisition of Chanelle Pharma, Ireland’s largest manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals;
  • the financing of the acquisition of the Flavour Specialty Ingredients division, a global leader in the base aromas market, from International Flavors & Fragrances;
  • the refinancing of Evergreen Garden Care, the world's leading marketer of branded consumer products for lawn and garden care; and
  • the disposal of the Enva Group, a leading provider of recycling and resource recovery solutions, to I Squared Capital.

Pro bono

  • Mentoring young people through the firm’s award-winning Smart Start programme.
  • Advising on the merger of four Welsh mental health and substance misuse charities and the creation of a new charity, Adferiad Recovery.
