A&O's Employment Law Exchange Launches: A Peer-to-Peer Learning and Networking Platform

On Tuesday 14 November, A&O played host to HR/ER professionals and in-house employment lawyers for its inaugural A&O Employment Law Exchange event.

Chaired by Daisy Cutler (Associate, London), the three person panel tackled topics including managing internal stakeholders and working effectively with counsel during the hour-long ‘Employment Litigation Essentials’ themed session.

Jordan Sheath (Associate, London) shared insights from his time spent seconded to a financial services firm, including the value of early engagement with relevant stakeholders such as named Respondents and potential witnesses who may not be familiar with the Employment Tribunal process. Jordan also provided practical tips on how to best work with busy stakeholders, and reiterated the value of curating strong working relationships with key business areas.

Providing the view from the other side, Lauren Hitchman (Barrister, One Essex Court) advised on how to work effectively with counsel and ultimately make the Tribunal process run as smoothly as possible for all parties. From mundane yet fundamental steps such as ensuring that electronic bundles are well-structured, to maintaining ongoing communication throughout the litigation process, Lauren provided a raft of both practical and strategic insights for the audience.

Hannah Crisp (Senior Associate, London) also offered some very helpful advice gained from her extensive experience litigating in the Employment Tribunals, including key points to consider when instructing counsel.

As a junior member of the Employment team, it was great to develop my understanding of the Employment Tribunal process and to network with my counterparts from clients across the City.

The A&O Employment Law Exchange is a new and exciting series of networking seminars for HR/ER professionals and in-house employment lawyers (recommended for those who have recently moved in-house or who are up to 8 years’ PQE, although everyone is welcome to join!). This is a chance for attendees to learn from their peers, share their experiences and get practical advice on how to handle some of the complex topics that they encounter in their careers.

Our next event will be taking place in Spring 2024. Please email Melanie.Arnold@AllenOvery.com to be added to the invite list.
