A&O Shearman advised Banking Circle on the issuance of markets in crypto-assets regulated stablecoin Eurite

A&O Shearman has advised Banking Circle S.A. on the issuance of Eurite (EURI), the first markets in crypto-assets (MiCA)-regulated stablecoin issued and backed by a bank in the EU. The e-money token became available for trading on Binance on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

As one of the first EURO stablecoins to be regulated under MiCA, EURI complies with stringent EU standards ensuring consumer protection, transparency, and financial stability, reducing legal risks and promoting a safer environment for trading and investment.

Baptiste Aubry, lead partner, comments: "This is a landmark transaction in the EU and a milestone for the European fintech landscape. As the first MiCA-regulated stablecoin backed by a bank in the EU, Eurite sets the tone for the integration of stablecoins into the EU financial system and its robust regulatory framework. It underscores the willingness of the industry to participate in the effort to safeguarding consumers and ensuring market integrity. This achievement also highlights the strength and expertise of our pan-European team, showcasing their ability to navigate complex legal environments and deliver innovative advice across multiple jurisdictions."
